Tycho Brahe

De Nova Stella

Copenhagen 1573
Rundetarn in Copenhagen, Lund's University Library, The Royal Library of Copenhagen, The Royal Library of Stockholm
About 20 copies of the book are known to exist
This is Tycho's first book about the new star. The book attracted much attention and established Tycho Brahe as an acknowledged astronomer. After his discovery of the new star, Tycho paid serious attention to his astronomical observations

Prague 1602 and 1603
Landskrona Museum (printed 1603), The Royal Library of Copenhagen, Lund's University Library, Malmö City Library (Lengertz collection), The Royal Library of Stockholm
Tycho's second book about the new star. It is not only about the new star. It also contains descriptions of the instruments he used, theories about the sun and moon and a catalogue of the position of 777 stars that he and his assistants had measured. The major part of the book was printed at Uraniborg, but it was not finished until after Tycho's death. His colleague Johann Kepler completed and published the book in 1602. Some books have 1603 given as the year of publication

De mundi Aetherei recentioribus Phaenomenis

Landskrona Museum (printed 1610), Malmö City Library (printed 1610, Lengertz collection), The Royal Library of Copenhagen, The Royal Library of Stockholm, Lund's University Library (1603)
Tycho Brahe published his theories about the universe in this book in 1588. It is about the large comet, which he observed in 1577. Previously, comets were thought to be vapours in the Earth's atmosphere. Tycho's measurements showed that the comet of 1577 must lie further away than the moon and that it moved freely between the planets. It was this that led him to doubt that the planets each had its own impenetrable sphere

Astronomiae Instauratae Mechanica

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Stockholm (in a few examples of Tycho Brahe's Mechanica, like this one, a watercolour portrait has been glued in. This is the last portrait that was made of Tycho Brahe and shows him in his final, less happy years), Lund's University Library (2 copies, 1598, 1602), The Royal Library of Copenhagen
Besides descriptions and illustrations of buildings and instruments from Hven, this book contains Tycho Brahe's autobiography.

En elementisch og Jordisch Astrologia

first published at Uraniborg in 1591
The Royal Library of Copenhagen, Lund's University Library
(printed in Copenhagen, 1644)
The author was a pupil of Tycho Brahe, who allowed the book to be printed so that the printer would not be idle between jobs. It was the only book in Danish to be printed on Hven.

Textbook in Astronomy by Regiomontanus

from Tycho Brahe's library
The Royal Library of Copenhagen
He has made corrections and notes in it. It is a textbook in astronomy, but at the top of the pages there are different plant names and there are also remnants of pressed herbs. It is possible that the book was used as a herbarium
