Painting is one of the series of portraits of outstanding Polish personages painted for the bishop Ignacy Krasicki Jan Gładysz (ok. 1762-1830)

MK 3468 Oil on canvas, size 117 x 74 cm Sitting figure turned into left with the canonry insignia of rank on the breast, with a drawing of the heliocentric system lying on his knees and a lunette (!) in his left hand. Beside standing a celestial globe, in the background a sun-dial and gleam of the sunset on the horizon. Painting was ordered by Rose rector of the grammar-school in Płock for an astronomical observatory of his own project. Karl Młodnicki(1835 - 1900)
